Besides taking folks out into the neighborhood, the best thing we get to do is help support locals who need it most. Every rider we take our, we give $5 of your cost over to folks that are making a difference in New Orleans. Over the 10 years we have been rolling, we have donated to our friends at:
LowerNine.org A great locally run ‘Bring ’em back home’ group still running strong after 10 years getting displaced Lower Ninth residents to the neighborhood they belong in.
Ninth ward Youth Orchestra An awesome after school program offering orchestral instruments and lessons from New Orleans musicians to kids who would not get them any other way.
New Orleans Community Printshop teen program Teaching kids printing skills and encouraging their artwork and all volunteer run.
The Original Big Seven Social Aid and Pleasure Club Our neighboorhood social club and the people that put on the Mothers Day Second Line that we are proud to be a part of.
Red Flame Hunters Teen Mardi Gras Indian Tribe Our favorite, and the kids that made the Mardi Gras Indian outfit in our shop. The first all kids Mardi Gras Indian Tribe that works, designs, and sews from the backyard on the block that we live in in the Eight Ward.
Lower Ninth Ward Village – A neighborhood-run program empowering both the young and old into a life of self sufficiency, and currently the only community center in the Lower Ninth Ward.
The Roots of Music – The brass band is a longstanding tradition in New Orleans. The Roots of Music offers New Orleans youth a chance to play in a marching band, an experience that many lost post-Katrina. Academic tutoring, minimum grade requirements and afternoon supervision is all a part of this great program for the children of our city.
Every one of them thanks you for your help and trying to see why their neighborhoods are worth bringing back despite the difficulties.
